WHAT YOU'll EXPERIENCE IN MY CLASSES
What is a typical mat-based yoga class experience with me?
We often start out lying on our backs on our mats, getting centered and connecting to our breath through guided breath and body awareness. We then begin movements from our position on the floor, beginning to open up our joints and our muscles and tissues. We might through sequences of breath and movement from a sitting position – cross-legged or with legs outstretched or on a chair - whatever is most comfortable. We often move onto hands and knees and do some slow movements from this position. (You are welcome to use a towel or blanket for extra padding under knees. There are also variations of poses that are gentle on knees and wrists.)
Then we might come to standing. (Alternatively, depending on the intention of the class, we might start standing.) Our standing poses include still poses, movement coordinated with breath, strength poses, and balance poses. Each class is similar but a little different, depending on the intention of the class. This brings both repetition and novelty to keep the brain interested and engaged!
After our standing sequences, we return to the floor, sometimes doing a few more movements or poses from the hands-and-knees position or lying on our bellies before returning to our backs for some final opening and release. We always end the class with a brief guided relaxation and final words.
