We’re nearly two years into this pandemic, and it hasn’t been easy for any of us. Even those of us who are introverts and haven’t minded being homebodies are getting weary of both home and body. And now we have arrived at February, and Valentine’s Day is approaching. Regardless of your feelings about this day and how it’s often acknowledged, you might feel you are being bombarded with messages and images of the day. Maybe you have someone in your life to give a valentine to or receive one from. Maybe not. Maybe you think the day was created by the greeting card industry. (It wasn’t, but it’s reasonable to think it might have been.) Whether or not you have someone special to send some love to, or don’t care about Valentine’s Day, you might be ready to calm the chatter and find a moment of peace and self-compassion. It’s always possible to find a way, large or small, to tend and befriend yourself. Maybe that’s taking a moment to pause and notice. Notice what’s around you and inside you. Notice your emotions and the physical sensations you are feeling. Notice what you see, hear, and smell. Maybe it’s taking a few slow, smooth breaths and bringing your awareness to those breaths. That might be enough for now, for today, for the month. If you’d like a little more, here’s a free course with a couple of very short practices for self-compassion. If you are ready for some 15-minute practices in slow mindful yoga, I have a course for you! Tend and Befriend Yourself has five 15-minute practices, all on the floor! For a delicious tending and befriending experience, sign up! It will be yours to keep, forever (as long as my platform is available). It’s normally $39, but for the month of February, you can get it for $29. You’ll have these practices available any time, day or night, that you want to take 15 minutes to tend and befriend yourself. Self-compassion. It’s a practice. I invite you to take one action this month that feels like you are tending and befriending yourself. |
Until I considered yoga, I was always searching for the thing that would make me feel good in my body, mind, and soul. As I age, I want to embrace life and feel well every day.
