Lori Taft Sours brings the benefits of slow, mindful yoga to those seeking greater balance, peace, and resilience. She is passionate about guiding people in developing tools to increase their vibrancy and live  to their highest potential every day, throughout their lifespan.

Through the life experiences of cancer, a challenging work environment, and the pandemic, she is keenly aware of the short-term and long-term effects of traumatic experiences and stress on our physical, mental, and emotional health.  Her own journey of healing led her to slow, mindful yoga as a system for greater resilience, peace of mind, and healthy aging.  She has discovered the power of slow, mindful yoga as an important foundation for aging wisely and well.

Lori holds a PhD in linguistics and has 30 years of experience in higher education, where she has taught courses in linguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics,  writing, and critical thinking, as well as curriculum design programs for both new and experienced community college teachers .    Find out more about her life in higher ed here.

Lori  earned her RTY-200 yoga teaching certification in 2014 (just before her 60th birthday) and achieved RYT-500 status in 2023.  In May of 2025, she achieved E-RYT 200 status, which means that she has documented 1000 hours of teaching since her 200-hour certification.

Beyond Lori's 500-hour certification trainings, her yoga training includes a Subtle® Yoga

certificate in teaching slow, mindful yoga; a certificate in Yoga for Healthy Aging 2.0 with Dr. Baxter Bell; courses in Prāṇāyāma and  in Yoga for Longevity with Gary Kraftsow,  Breathwork certification with Kristine Weber, a course in yogic meditation with Nischala Joy Devi, several courses in Yoga for Cancer, including a certificate for a short course in Oncology Yoga, and a wide variety of trainings and courses through Subtle® Yoga and YogaUOnline to deepen her understanding of all aspects of the yoga tradition.  She regularly attends online workshops and conferences related to yoga, the intersection of yoga and neuroscience, and other topics. She has specialized training in chair yoga for brain and body health, as well as courses in the connections between neuroscience and yoga. She is a Certified Brain Longevity® Specialist through the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation, with a focus on how yoga practices support brain health.  Her additional trainings total over 780 hours.   She is a founding member of the professional training group Subtle® Yoga Resilience Society and (though not a certified yoga therapist),  a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists

She has taught yoga classes regularly since 2014, in person until March 2020 in a variety of settings (including workplace, community, and private home), and online starting in April 2020.  She now offers a mixture of online and in-person classes (in southern Oregon).  She has also offered a variety of yoga workshops, retreats, and programs, both in-person and online.

The workshops and courses she offers in slow, mindful yoga are designed around clear learning outcomes, intended to provide participants with tools they can integrate into their lives, beyond the experience of the workshop itself.

She is committed to making learning accessible and clear to all students. With a background in psycholinguistics and language processing, she is skilled at providing clear, supportive, compassionate instruction and guidance to learners in the classroom and on the yoga mat or in a chair yoga setting.

She is passionate about introducing the benefits of slow, mindful yoga to people who want to feel better and age well and who are willing to consider the practice of slow, mindful yoga as a major component in their plan for well-being and skillful aging.

She is also passionate about the role that science plays in our understanding of the benefits of yoga and especially the slow, mindful yoga approach.  She understands and teaches yoga through both her own experiences, with a committed personal practice  and a consistent weekly teaching schedule, as well as evidence presented in the ever-growing body of literature on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits of  yoga.

With her conviction that we all have the ability – and the right – to seek health, well-being, and vibrancy, Lori founded Consider Yoga to guide you to create sustainable practices in slow, mindful yoga for brain, body, and spiritual wellness.
